so for the past few weeks (or months) we’ve been working with the fierce youth of the Boston-area Youth Organizing Project (BYOP) to create a cohesive visual presence for their youth organizing work (i guess branding their identity in a non-corporatized sort of way). the past year (or two) broadleaf has worked closely with BYOP at various events, from community organizing workshops to marching with them in the streets of ATL at the united states social forum, so we have a very strong grasp on their work and what their vision is.
BYOP in full affect
for their logo, we started from the youth themselves, their work, and built up from there.
the image for the logo is taken from the opening march at the ussf (photo on the right), where BYOP youth lead a huge contingency from the east coast along the historic civil rights march route created during the days of MLK. with a little illustrator action plus the handstyles of philly’s finest- saevr, we designed an adaptable logo that captured the spirit of the org (and subtly suggested the youth-led, adult-supported mission of the group). from there we tweaked the logo to make a tshirt design, and created an image for their youthway campaign… keeping the same visual signifiers, all just slightly remixed, so you know it’s BYOP at the core.
we’re still in the process of finishing up this gig, but it has basically been broadleaf’s first graphic design package. and the fact that it was for fam is always a plus.
